The Jondishapur Library represents a culturally significant architectural intervention within a major mixed-use development. Inspired by the intellectual heritage of the ancient Academy of Jondishapur, the design articulates a sophisticated synthesis between Eastern spatial sensibilities and classical Western design frameworks. Spanning approximately 3,300 square meters, the library operates as both a knowledge institution and a civic landmark with deep architectural and cultural resonance.
SPATIAL ORGANIZATION AND DESIGN STRATEGY
At the core of the spatial composition lies a central rectangular reading hall at the main level, anchored by a grand communal reading table. This is complemented by a perimeter of smaller four-person desks, carefully arranged to facilitate both collective engagement and individual concentration. Ergonomically contoured lounge chairs are positioned in zones of acoustic and visual calm, encouraging longer periods of focus and rest. Upper floors accommodate dedicated reading rooms and a specialized archive, reinforcing the programmatic layering of the space.
MATERIAL EXPRESSION AND ARCHITECTURAL IDENTITY
The architectural language merges Gothic structural motifs with local ornamental traditions. Elements such as pointed arches, monumental marble staircases with handcrafted wooden balustrades, stained glass windows, and intricate arabesque floor and ceiling patterns establish a multilayered visual narrative.
